Melvyn Richard Peake, age 80 of Albion passed away on December 29, 2022. Melvyn was born on July 9, 1942 in Hastings to Ira and Bernice Peake. He was the sixth of seven children and the story goes that he was so small he was brought home in a shoebox but with much love and care he grew into a healthy young man on the family’s dairy farm. Melvyn graduated from Hastings high school in 1961. A few years after graduation he married Ann Borton. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last but they had two children: Vicki Jo (Tim) Bicknell and Brian Peake. In 1980, he married Marietta Ball and besides his two children they raised her three children: Steve (Veronica) Ball, Robyn (Tom) Isaacson, and DeAnn (Roger) Frye. Marietta passed away in 2006 and in 2009 he met a widow by the name of Nadine Gorzelniaski. They married in 2010 and she survives as do all five of his children. He is also survived by two sisters: Marjorie Huva and Maxine (Dale) Payne; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He worked at Clark Equipment for over 20 years until the company closed. He then worked for MACI (Michigan Automotive Compressor) until he retired in 2005.He was a long time member of Sandstone Congregational Church in Sandstone. Melvyn’s family will welcome friends on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 5-7 PM at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 6, 2023 at McCallum United Brethren Church, 5505 Otis Lake Road, Delton. Pastor Brad Smith will officiate.
