Robert (Bob) Lee Slocum, 78, of Hastings, MI, passed away at his home in Middleville, MI, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. He was born in Hastings, MI, on November 14, 1943, the son of George and Luella Slocum. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1961 and then served faithfully as a Seabee in the U. S. Navy. Upon discharge, he met Katie Honeysett on a blind date, and they were married a year and a half later. They went on to be married for over 56 years. He retired from the Barry County Road Commission after 35 years and then worked part- time for Truck and Trailer Specialties for 17 years. Over the years, Bob loved his cars, motorcycles, boats, and snowmobiling with his family and friends. He and Katie loved their time at their getaway up north they affectionately called “Tippy.” Bob loved his family and, in the last few years especially, enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Katie of 56 years; children, Deborah (Howard) Wright of Caledonia, Mark Slocum of Milwaukee, and Matthew (Pamela) Slocum of Battle Creek; grandchildren Nicole, Amanda, Adam, Jillian (Caleb), Rachel (Logan) and Elizabeth; and his sister Gina (Berny) Blough of Hastings. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older sisters, Marguerite Butler and Joan Baines.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Beeler Gores Funeral Home (https://goresfuneralservice.com) in Middleville, MI, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Visitation on Monday, September 26, 2022, will be at Holy Family Catholic Church at 10 a.m., with a funeral mass following at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Charles Fischer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Lung Association or Right to Life of Michigan.
