James Francis Jackson, age 97 of Wayland, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 3, 2020. James was born on January 31, 1923 at home in Wayland to Clayton and Louise (Gardner) Jackson. Farming was James’ passion and he farmed for most of his life. He also worked as a welder for Bradford White for many years. He was a special friend of the church at Corner Church in Wayland. James enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, wood carving, and playing cards. He took up cooking and baking at the age of 80, and made lots of delicious foods and pies. James was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and friends, and loved working with his hands. He was known to be able to talk to anyone and never met a stranger. Most important to James was his grandchildren and family. Surviving is his children, Clayton (Elda) Jackson II, Lloyd Jackson, Ralph (Betty) Jackson, Jean Haan; grandchildren, Kevin (Rachel) Jackson, Brenda (Greg) Smith, Amanda (Justin) Brandt; nine great grandchildren; good friend, Paul Grindol; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jean Maxine Jackson; sister, Betty (Watson) Petersen; and brother Donald Jackson. A graveside service will be conducted at on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Hill Cemetery in Wayland Township. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Hospice.
