My dear husband, Lee Douglas Hoke, was born on March 31, 1938. He loved the Lord and by the grace of God was ushered into Heaven on August 19, 2020 after a brave battle with dementia. He has been reunited with his father and mother, Walter and Ethel Hoke, his brother Roger, our unborn son, brother-in-law Dick Hayward and nephews Jon Raymond Staley and Mark Hayward.

Lee was deeply loved and I will greatly miss him and so will our children Amy and Bruce Young, Christopher and Kim Hoke, grandchildren Brad Young, Leah and Brandon Postema, Karly, Logan, Ella and Hadley Montague, great-grandchildren Simon Young, Sadie and Maxwell Postema, brother Donald and sister-in-law LaDonna Hoke, sister Patricia Hayward, sister Jean and brother-in-law Don Sutton, brother-in-law Jim and sister-in-law Sharon Staley and many nieces and nephews.

Lee graduated from Comstock High School and served our country in the Army. Lee and I were married on May 25, 1963. He received a certificate in tool & die making at Michigan Career and Technical Institute and worked in that field until retirement.

Lee was a man of deep faith who prayed for our family to follow him in that faith and he was blessed to see his prayers answered abundantly. He was an avid sports fan and was always there for Amy and Chris at their sporting events. Our favorite time in the summer was being with our children, extended family and friends at the cottage. Thankfully, it has become a family tradition.

After retiring, Lee and I enjoyed traveling together. One of our destinations was looking for the next lighthouse. To celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary, our children took Lee and I on a weekend away to celebrate our special day. As an extra blessing, Amy wrote a song about our life entitled “Blue Collar Baby” which became our favorite song.

After 52 years “on the farm,” we moved into a lovely home in Kalamazoo where I will continue to reside and remember all that the Lord graciously gave us over our many years together.

An intimate family gathering will take place at a later date. Pastor Jason Zimmer will join our family to honor Lee and say good-bye until we all meet again in Glory.

Continuing on in Faith,
Janet E. Hoke

Donations honoring Lee can be made to LEMA Theological Seminary in Nigeria, P.O. Box 143, Plainwell, MI 49080, or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan at

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
2 Timothy 4:7-8

Lee had a special gift; he shared his quiet Godly spirit, his strong faith, and sweet smile to so many, and I remember with fondness his ministry at North Point Church. What a blessing Janet and Lee have been to so many.
