Carl Richie, age 82, of Shelbyville passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, August 7, 2020. Carl was born on December 19, 1937 in Hindman, KY, the son of Calvin and Loucinda (Conley) Richie. Carl and his family moved to Michigan in 1949 where he later met his wife of 62 years, Jean (Armes) Richie. Together they had 3 wonderful children. Carl worked at Rockwell International for 22 years. Once he retired he created his own business building custom cabinets. He enjoyed working in his wood shop hand crafting guitars for his family. Carl was a loving, hardworking man who enjoyed the outdoors and playing music together with his family. He played a big role in his children's and grandchildren's lives, whether it was giving advice, fixing cars or building houses, he was always there. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Mavis; and sister: Nellie (Nelz) Montague. He is survived by his loving wife, siblings: Pat (Warren) Kimmel, Jenny (Dewey) Armes, Marshie (Howard) Burcham, Larrie (Lyn) Richie; his children: Gary (Toni) Richie, Perry (Lisa) Richie, Kim (Mike) Stone, 7 grandchildren; and he was great papa to 8 great grandchildren. He loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed. A private funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, August 10, 2020 at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home. Carl will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wings of Hope Hospice.
