Obituary

M. Charles Quinlan, Middleville, MI

M. Charles Quinlan (Chuck), age 92 of Middleville, MI, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Chuck was born on June 3, 1928, in Newberry, MI, the son of David and Emily (Younquist) Quinlan, and was a graduate of Newberry High School.

Chuck was most proud of his service in the US Army (1946-1948). He enthusiastically volunteered as soon as he was old enough and served in Japan post WWII during which time his unit was assigned to be Honor Guard for General Douglas MacArthur and his family in Karuizawa, Nagano Japan. He also played the bass drum in the Army band.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Chuck attended Northern Michigan University and later the University of Michigan where he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and earned his bachelors in Business Administration. Chuck worked for the State of Michigan Department of Treasury for over 30 years, retiring in 1988. He was active in Rotary International serving as club President.

Chuck greatly enjoyed family time at Starvation Lake and loved to play host to relatives and friends who might drop by (or stay a week). He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and traveling. He was an enthusiastic supporter of University of Michigan sports and faithfully never missed a Wolverine football game, often wearing a radio headset while sitting in a deer blind.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann (Borsum) Quinlan; children: Debra J. (Quinlan) Watson (James), William C. Quinlan (Barbara), Lynda M. (Quinlan) Morrissey (Mike); former spouse, Patricia A. (Wilkins) Jetter; grandchildren: Matthew J. Watson, Andrew T. Watson, Lauren Quinlan, Ryan Quinlan, Kevin Quinlan, Kate Morrissey, and Bryan Morrissey. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Kelsey Watson; siblings: David B. Quinlan, Edward J. Quinlan, William F. Quinlan, Florence L. (Quinlan) Bonello, and Loraine C. (Quinlan) Arneth.

Chuck’s family will receive friends on Thursday, July 30, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Beeler-Gores Funeral Home in Middleville, where services will begin at 1:00 PM. Private burial will take place in Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry MI. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Rotary Club of Kalkaska, P.O. Box 651, Kalkaska, MI 49646 or the University of Michigan Marching Band, Revelli Hall, 350 East Hoover, Ann Arbor, MI 48104-3707 in Chuck’s honor.
