Wrate, David L.

David Lee “Rat” Wrate, age 60 of Delton, passed away unexpectedly on May 14, 2020 at Ascension Borgess Hospital. David was born on October 18, 1959 in Hastings, the son of Leon and Joyce (Bancroft) Wrate. David had a passion for hearses, he was a member of the hearse groups: Graveyard Haulerz and Just Hearsing Around. He proudly participated in the world’s longest hearse procession that was held in Hell, Michigan. In the 1970’s David was a volunteer for B.P.O.H. Ambulance and the Kalamazoo Search and Recovery Dive Team. He earned his EMT certification along with two other degrees from KVCC. David was an IT specialist for Safari Montage for many years. On March 24, 1998, David met the love of his life Julie Sauceda at their favorite restaurant Buffalo Wild Wings; and two years later on March 24, 2000 they were married. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, going to Heart concerts, putting together models with his grandchildren, and had many collections and hobbies. David loved living at Wall Lake and took many beautiful “Good Morning Wall Lake” photos. Most important to David was helping others, being a life mentor to many, and always seeing the good in everyone. David is survived by his loving wife of 20 years: Julie Wrate; son: Daniel (Carolina Taylor) Rodriguez; daughter: Trisha (John) Rhea; grandchildren: Jaylin, Jamon, Nehemiah, Julian, and Nikko; brother: Lonnie (Doneta) Wrate; sister: Wendy Wrate; nephews: Daniel Wrate, Bob Wrate, and Tim Wrate; and many loving extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kerry “Corky” Wrate. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial celebration for David will be scheduled at a future date, and private burial has taken place.
