Martin, Darrell L.

Darrell Lee Martin, age 91, went to be with his Lord on April 29, 2020. Darrell was born on November 17, 1928, the son of Bruth and Myrl (Bloss) Martin. In 1948, Darrell married Elenora Guernsey and they shared 71 years together. Darrell was a farmer for all of his life and also spent 16 years working at Oldsmobile. Darrell was a man of God; he read his bible and prayed daily and was involved in jail ministry. He was very active at Grove Bible Church where he was a deacon, Gideon member, and helped build the church. Darrell traveled to Texas to work at Bibleville Camp building homes for the needy in Mexico. He also was a member of Peach River Bible Church in Punta Gorda, Florida. Most recently, he attended First Baptist Church of Middleville where he would volunteer to vacuum the church and help out weekly. Darrell loved to travel, he was an accomplished pilot and owned a Cessna 180. Until recently, he and his wife enjoyed exploring the United States in their motor home. His love of fishing brought him to Alaska numerous times, and he even won a bass fishing tournament in Florida. Darrell is survived by his loving wife; children: Michael Martin, Helen (Wayne) Wiersma, and Perry (Erin) Martin; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; brother: Larry (Carol) Martin; sisters: Lois (John) Arnett and Joni (Fred) Branham; and several nieces and nephews. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Lowell Martin. Private burial will take place at Coman Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Middleville when the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. Memorial contributions to Gideon's International will be appreciated. Please visit to share a memory or to leave a condolence message for Darrell’s family.

Dear Helen and Wayne and your entire family - it was such a pleasure getting to know your parents when you started building your house next door - what a treasure your dad was in his help and wisdom in every way. You were truly blessed and now he enjoys eternal life while he waits for the rest of us! I'm praying for your peace during this difficult time. Sending hugs and love to you all. God Bless. Gloria Jean

To the Family of Darrell Martin, I have known and loved you through the years. It is with great sadness we come to this phase in life. Your father was loved and respected by many. The hours he put into building Grove Bible Church both spiritually and physically will long be remembered. My prayers are with you during these most difficult days. It is with great joy I think of the reunion he and Pastor Bob are having right now!!

I’m so sorry Perry and Erin to hear of your Dads passing. He sounds like a wonderful Father, Husband and a Grandfather. You are so blessed to know the love he had for you and our God.
