Obituary

Rosemary “Rosey” Mercer, Shelbyville, MI - November 17, 1951-March 11, 2020 Rosey passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 11, 2020 at the Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, MI. Rosey will forever be remembered as the “Queen of Gun Lake.” For most of her life you could find Rosey behind the counter of Gillett’s Bait & Hardware where she worked tirelessly to provide the best service to her loyal customers. While she could master any plumbing problem with ease, her expertise and passion was for hunting, fishing and telling Gun Lake tales. If you visited Gillett’s you could always count on being greeted with a smile, a cup of coffee and, most likely, a fresh baked cookie. Rosey’s love language was often spoken through food. Her skills in the kitchen were enjoyed by so many. Not only did she love her people but she also had a special love for animals of all kinds. Rosey was preceded in death by her grandparents, George & Amelia Gillett, parents, Owen Lafountain and Carolyn Keech, step father, Ron Keech, son, Dion Kerber, sisters, Carol Miller, Rhonda Grey, Robin Henry and brother, Johnny Bingner. Rosey is survived by her husband, David Mercer, step mother, Jean Lafountain, son, Chris (Shanda) Kerber, step children, Heidi and Chad Mercer and the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Maya, Helena & Aliza Kerber and Trent, Phillip & Kayla Cardosa, DC Mercer and great grandson, Alyza, brother, David (Kathy) Lafountain, sisters, Gilma Opperman, Roxanne Hammond, Kathy (Mark) DeBruyne. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Please visit www.williamsgoresfuneral.com to share a memory or to leave a condolence message for Rosey's family.

Dear Jean and Family,I am so sorry to hear of Rosy's passing. A very sweet gal. She was a couple of years younger than I. I loved going to the hardware and bait shop. She would be at the counter. George around somewhere and Grandma back in her little sitting room. Her sister Robin was a wonderful sister-in-law that I had the pleasure of also knowing and loving for many years. May she rest in peace with her family until we all meet again
