Nellie M. Myers, age 90 of Kentwood formerly of Wayland passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Metro Health Hospital. Nellie was born June 10, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Edward and Caroline (Brown) Ballard. Nellie was a 1947 graduate of Thornapple Kellogg High School. On September 24, 1948, Nellie married the love of her life Alfred H. Myers and together they shared sixty-five year together before his passing on May 12, 2014. Nellie worked on her family’s chicken farm for many years. She was a longtime member at Leighton Church. Nellie enjoyed giving back to the community as a volunteer swim instructor at Windsor Woods. She also spent time volunteering at Van Andel Arena for many different events. Most important to Nellie was spending time with her family and friends. Nellie is survived by her children: Margaret Rasion, Kathleen Clum, Joan (Dave) Allwelt, Laura Nash, Melvin (Flo) Myers, Annette (Ron) Pifer, Cheryl Jensen and Peggy (Ken) Keller, a sister-in-law: Trudy Kruger, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Arlene King, a grandson: James Allwelt, sons in law: Denny Rasion and Don Clum, siblings: Edward, Maryann, Donna, and Marvin; and brother-in-law, Bruce Myers. Nellie's family will receive friends Thursday, January 9, 2020, 6:00-8:00 PM at the Beeler-Gores Funeral Home, Middleville. Nellie’s funeral service will be conducted on Friday, January 10, 2020, 11:00 AM at Leighton United Methodist Church, 4180 2nd Street, Caledonia, Rev. David McBride officiating. Burial will take place in Yankee Springs Cemetery. Memorials to Leighton United Methodist Church will be appreciated. She was a true loving person, I was her son-in-law for 6 1/2 years, she always treated me with respect and also talk about the family with me. She was a grandmother to my two sons, Kirk and Scott Scheib. I always respected Alfred and Nellie they where very good people ,they just a large family of girls and one son , Melvin, I always felt sorry for him growing up with all those sister had to be tough.
God be with all of them and show them what Nellie tried to all her life.
