Obituary

Selbee, Beatrice “Bea”
Delton

Beatrice Marion “Bea” Selbee, age 91 of Delton passed away on December 22, 2019 at Ascension Borgess Hospital. She was born September 23, 1928 on the family farm in Kalamazoo County, the eldest child of Max and Marie (Stevens) Eberstein. Throughout her life Bea was an early riser, getting up at dawn to help with farm chores and being there for her six sibling. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, feeding the birds and wildlife, and working with the farm animals, especially the horses.. Bea was the beloved wife of the late Glen P. Selbee for 38 years. She took pride in her home, painting inside and out, mowing the yard, and working in the flower beds with the help of her dogs. Most important to Bea was her family, recently reminiscing about spending time with her daughters and grandchildren, such as teaching them to fish off the dock. Bea is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Tom) Marks and Sandra Selbee, grandchildren, Jennifer (Enders) Dickinson, Amanda Johnson, Richard (Cassidy) Nutter, Brian Nutter, and Kyle Chopp, great-granddaughter, Selbee Dickinson, brother, Jim (Donna) Eberstein, sister, Alice VanderVeen, sisters-in-law, Jill Eberstein and Dorcus Eberstein, and several nieces and nephews. Bea was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Pamela Nutter and brothers, Bill, Roy, Bob, and Mike Eberstein. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Harrison Cemetery. Bea was a customer at Bowens in the 80's, when I left in the 90's, she sent me a Christmas card every year---including this one. I always looked forward to them. she was a sweet, wonderful woman and i'll certainly miss hearing from her. My sympathy to her family. Her friend, Fran Erskine.

My name is Donald Smith and I’m so sorry to hear of Mrs. Selbee passing, I lived at wall lake for 24 years and during my childhood I delivered the Battle Creek Paper to Mr and Mrs Selbee. I have many memories of first being scared of the big dog, I think her name was Ginger, after a few weeks she didn’t seem to be so scary after Mrs Selbee taught me the proper way to “ greet her dog” Mrs Selbee also would let me go explore the giant woods and marsh area they owned, it was a privilege I cherished because I knew not many were allowed to do that. She made it clear that I could go out in the woods but do not disturb or hurt anything! After I moved away from the lake I would see her in the store from time to time and she always stopped to talk and reminisce about my family and I also worked on her car at the Ford dealership. She was always so kind and thoughtful, I will always remember her and I know she will be missed very much, my thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends, God Bless.

We are so sorry to hear of Bea's passing. I remember her working alongside Glen to build their house at Wall Lake. For nearly 60 years she was our summer neighbor. One memory that stands out for me was in the winter of 1983. My dad was dying of cancer and one day Bea showed up at our house in town with a picnic basket filled with homebaked bread, pies and casseroles. Her kindness brought my mother to tears -- which didn't happen often. She was a very kind woman, always ready to laugh and offer to help. Condolences to Debbie, Sandy and the grandkids. -- Steve Smith

Jerry and I are so very sorry to hear of Bea's passing. We brought her the Gazette news for over 9 years and grew very fond of her. A very sweet lady that God has taken as a new angel. Rest in peace, Miss Selby.
