John “Jack” Robinson, age 86, of Middleville passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, leaving behind a legacy of love of family and devotion to his Lord. He was born on July 2, 1933 in Hazel Park to Gano and Mary (Curtis) Robinson. His family moved from the Detroit area to Plainwell in the 1940’s where they owned a restaurant, “The Lucky 5.” He graduated from Plainwell High School in 1951. Jack met his wife, Maureen, when they were employed at the Kalamazoo State Hospital. They were married on October 4, 1953. Jack attended Western Michigan University, attaining a B.A. in biology. Jack and Maureen lived in Kalamazoo, Hastings and East Lansing before moving to Holt, where they raised their children and made many dear friends. Holt United Methodist Church was a beloved part of this chapter of their lives. The Robinsons also sponsored the Tran family from Vietnam during this period. Jack worked for the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources as an aquatic biologist beginning in 1960. He was passionate about protecting Michigan’s streams, rivers and lakes. He retired as section chief for water quality in 1986. Jack and Maureen retired and moved to the family farm in Middleville, where they enjoyed many happy years with family and friends. Jack’s favorite activities included travel with Maureen, working with family at S&S Market, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, swimming at the Pennock’s Wellness Center and lunching at Pennock’s Café, auditing theology classes at Calvin College, visiting churches of all kinds, reading and journaling, and enjoying his faith family at Thornapple Valley Church, and later, at Middleville United Methodist Church. Jack was a good son, and felt blessed to have his mother live next door on the farm for many years. He was a loving father and grandfather leaving behind countless special memories. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years, Maureen; his son: Paul Robinson; and his sisters: Pat Morgan and Shirley Ortisi. Jack is survived by his children: Tom (JoAnn) Robinson, Susan Frahm, Cheryl (Erick) Meier; grandchildren: Shelby VanKuiken, Jessica (Chris) Crampton, Thomas Krause, Emily (Randy) LaCosse, Joshua Robinson, Katie (Mike) Miller, and Julie Reddy; great-grandchildren: Seth, Jake, Mollie, Wyatt, Charlotte, Stella, Levi, Devon, and Eloise, one great-great-grandchild: Braelynn; and many nieces and nephews.
