Calvena Priscilla Lyttle, age 85, of Hastings passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Calvena was born June 6, 1934 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Leo and Josephine (Rich) VanValkenburg. Calvena had a long history in the food service industry. She worked at Arlene’s and Tehki Truck Stops for many years, before taking a position at Arrowood Nursing Home for eleven years. In her free time, Calvena enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, and cooking. Calvena was always proud of her rich Dutch roots and her family. Calvena will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and backbone to her family. Surviving is her son, Russell (Patricia) Lyttle; daughters: Kathy (John) Griffin, Ann (Bobby) Reuter, LouAnn Burke, and Tammy (Brett) Smith; brothers: Howard VanValkenburg, Leo VanValkenburg Jr., and Doug McComber; a sister, Helen Williams; sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Calvena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gorden Lyttle; five siblings; and a grandson, Henry Lyttle. Calvena’s family will receive friends, Sunday, 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home where her funeral service will be conducted on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 9:30 AM, Pastor Rick Foster, officiating. Burial will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Elara Hospice will be appreciated.
