Obituary

(Norman) Duane Curtis, 61 of Delton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at home. Duane was born on September 3, 1958 in Battle Creek Michigan to Norman and Ellen Marie (Coppock) Curtis.

It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to our dear son, father, brother, friend and colleague. He was a beloved member of the Battle Creek Academy community and served selflessly at Urbandale SDA Church. He was a Pathfinder leader with the Urbandale SDA Pathfinder Club and mentored young people both spiritually and professionally. His charismatic spirit will be missed but his service-minded leadership and Christ-centered volunteerism will be forever remembered.

Duane is survived by his parents, sons, Jason and Joshua and their families and his brother Gerald (Pam) and numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Visitation will be held at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home in Delton on Sunday, September 22 from 3PM-5PM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 23 at 11AM at the Urbandale Seventh-day Adventist Church in Battle Creek.

Memorial contributions can be made to Battle Creek Academy or the Urbandale Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinders. Please visit www.williamsgoresfuneral.com to share a memory or to leave a condolence message for Duane’s family.

Gerald and family, I am very sorry to hear about Duane. I enjoyed working with him and he always had a great story or joke to share. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

So many memories! The latest; walking on the hill above the farm with Carys riding on Duane's shoulder. He is showing us the different plants. Robbie and Carys tried sasafrass for the first time. Duane showed us how to play frizbee golf, a sport I did not knew existed before that. When we were kids; swimming in the pond down the road... and I especially remember driving around the hills in a beat up old truck that had an old tire as a driver seat. I think Duane discovered peanut butter and onion sandwich, apparently now a local delicacy!

Duane was a young teenager when our boys were 6-9 years old. We often let them spend time with Auntie and Uncle Duane and Gerald. One time our oldest Robert came home told me emphatically that no longer was he going to eat mushrooms because Duane didn’t.
