Obituary

Robert (Bob) S. Cisler Sr., age 86, of Middleville, passed away on August 11, 2019, at Faith Hospice in Byron Center. Bob was born on April 7, 1933 in Kent County to Burdette and Katherine (VanHorn) Cisler. He was a lifelong resident of the Caledonia/Middleville area and was a star athlete while attending Caledonia High School. He was also a lifelong member of Parmelee United Methodist Church. Bob proudly served his county in the US Army during the Korean War. Bob retired from Steelcase in 1991 after 37 years as a supervisor; he was also an auctioneer for over 20 years during this time. After retiring, he worked for Otto’s Turkey Farm, Yankee Springs Golf Course (member) and Beeler-Gores Funeral Home. He appreciated the outdoors and enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, golf and playing cards. He also enjoyed traveling, boating, woodworking, and making fishing rods. Bob was proud of the home he built on Barlow Lake where he spent a lot of time with his loving family. Bob was a caring person who was always willing and available to help anyone he could. Bob is survived by his dear wife, Mary Lou (Lind) Cisler; his children: Robert Jr. (Marcia) Cisler, William Cisler, Patricia Cisler, Mary Cisler; grandchildren: Hunter Cisler and Whitney Hemmes; his siblings: Virginia (Archie) Hennessey, Ken (Blanche) Cisler, Lavina (Arnith) Stahl and Russell (Shirley) Cisler; and sisters-in-law: Marilyn Stafford and Darlene Sisson; along with many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Friends and relatives may meet with the family on Wednesday, August 14, from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm at Beeler-Gores Funeral Home in Middleville, and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held on Thursday, August 15, at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Lee Zachman officiating. A private burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 45. Memorial contributions to Parmelee United Methodist Church or Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods would be appreciated. Worked and golfed with Bob while at Steelcase. Bob was always friendly and supportive, I was in engineering and constantly needing Bob's help with pilot runs, quality issues, etc. These were not priority items as he had a schedule to meet; however, Bob was always supportive and would do whatever you asked him. Have always appreciated his support and friendship, you couldn't ask for a nicer friend. My sympathies to family and others affected.

As Bob's pastor I had nothing but love and admiration for him. He was faithful to his wife, family, country and church. In the worship service at Parmelee United Methodist last Sunday we estimated that Bob rang the church bell every Sunday for about 50 years. We guessed that he rang it about 10 times each Sunday which means he rang it 26000 times! I'm guess heaven has bell that need to be rung. I'm sure Bob will volunteer!
