Carolyn J. Jackson
Carolyn “Cari” Jackson passed away February 5, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Carolyn was born September 11, 1935 in Pontiac, the daughter of Howard and Opal (Mick) Thompson. On June 29, 1957, Carolyn married the love of her life, Donald Jackson, who survives. As a graduate of the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, Carolyn enjoyed a full career as an RN, starting in a doctor’s office, and continuing her career as an ER Nurse at Pennock Hospital, the first School Nurse at Thornapple Kellogg Public Schools, a public health nurse for Barry County, and an RN Case Manager for Disability before retiring as an RN Manager in Insurance Utilization Review. She has volunteered over the years for the American Cancer Society and American Red Cross. Carolyn enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, playing cards with friends, ceramics, sewing, knitting, puzzles, and handing out treats to her much loved “grand doggies”. Carolyn is also survived by her son: Mark (Tamara) Jackson; daughters: Ellen (Rick) Hazewinkel and Jane Jackson; grandchildren: Matthew (Laura) Jackson, Lyle Jackson, Jacob Hazewinkel and Scott Hazewinkel; great grandchildren: Abigail and Lucas; and sisters: Mary (William) LeMarbe, and Dorothy (Elton) Houston. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Emma Louise “Bees” (Gene) Lowery, Virginia (Robert) Hukka, and Margaret (Lee) Rains. Carolyn’s family will receive friends, Thursday, February 8, 2018, 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Beeler-Gores Funeral Home where her memorial service will be conducted at 5:00 PM, Pastor Tony Shumaker, officiating.
