RUSSELL, Cashus “Junior”

Cashus “Junior” Russell, age 91, went home to be with his Lord on January 30, 2018 with his family by his side. Junior was born April 7, 1926, the son of Seward and Fern (Solomon) Russell. He graduated from W.K. Kellogg Agricultural School in 1944. He worked the family farm and enjoyed motorcycle riding with his longtime friends, some of whom still survive today. Junior married Gloria (Springer) on November 9, 1947. He owned and operated Stony Lake Sand and gravel, asphalt and excavating along with his brother, Wendell Russell, retiring in 1998. Junior was a Cub Master, a 4-H leader, member of the Barry County Fair Campgrounds and a Charter Member of Richland Bible Church (now gracespring Bible Church). He enjoyed his family, church, golfing, and bowling. He and Gloria square danced for many years and also enjoyed “Hartzler” Bus Tours. Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, of sixty five years, his parents, a sister, Leone McKelvey, and a nephew, Daniel Wakefield. Junior is survived by a son: Gary (Ginny) Russell of Hickory Corners, two daughters: Cheryl (Bob) McKay of Hastings and Diane Smith of Dowling; two sisters: Rosanna Wakefield of Phoenix, AZ, Linda (Doug) Huntington of Grand Rapids; and a brother: Wendell (Phyllis) Russell of Augusta, seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Junior will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Junior’s family will receive friends Saturday, February 3, 2018, 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home. Junior’s funeral service will be conducted Monday, February 5, 2018, 11:00 AM at gracespring Bible Church, Pastor Rob Cook, officiating. Burial will take place in East Hickory Corners Cemetery. Memorial contributions to gracespring Bible Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan will be appreciated. Please visit to share a memory or to leave a condolence message for Junior’s family.
