Obituary for Jason VanOstran
Jason Lee VanOstran
July 17th, 1984-April 17th, 2014
Jason was a Kalamazoo, MI resident at the time of his death but he spent his childhood years as a member of the Delton, Michigan community. While in Delton, Jason participated in many community service projects and could often be found working alongside his mother at the church’s food pantry. He often voiced that he felt blessed and fortunate with his life and wanted to help others who did not have the fulfilling life he felt he had. During his high school years he attended Delton Kellogg High School and was member of the football team his freshman and sophomore years. Afterward he married and became a father and his children were his world. Jason was a devoted family man who put his entire family first and foremost including his siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. His friends were also a very important part of his life and he felt that no man could ever have too many of them. Jason was fondly referred to as our “gentle giant” as he towered just about everyone he encountered and his presence was always large. He had the softest most gentle smile and eyes that could light up a room. He was a very caring and giving man that would give a person in need the shirt off his own back. He was also fun-loving man that had many interests, his favorite being somewhere on the water with a fishing pole in his hand. He could often be found in the kitchen whipping up some new culinary delights and he enjoyed watching others eat his creations as much as he enjoyed eating it himself which led to his primary employment field as a cook, most recently working at Gallagher’s on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo.
